Ten Things You Didn’t Know Your Podiatrist Can Help You With

InterixAs part of Foot Health Month this October in Australia, we’re spreading the word about all the things you didn’t know we can help you with here at Sole Motion Podiatry! And yes – we do offer much more than just the services below that all podiatrists generally offer too – but the ones below are our secret weapons! Here we go…

1. Repair soft tissue and muscle injury using laser therapy

Its name is THOR. We call it laser therapy. Patients refer to it as a lifesaver. Whatever you call it, laser certainly does speed up soft tissue healing and repair like we’ve not seen before. The laser is classified as ‘low-level’, meaning it won’t burn you or cause you pain. It uses red and near-infrared light to stimulate cells and speed up the healing, repair and strengthening process. We’ve seen it work brilliantly on a variety of difficult-to-treat problems such as back and neck pains, arthritis, and all types of joint and muscles pains and strains throughout the lower limbs. Better yet, it’s completely safe with zero side effects.

2. Relieve pain from both new and chronic, ongoing conditions you may have had for years using neurostimulation

Sit back, relax, and let us relieve your pain without using medications? Yes, please! The fantastic technology behind this is called the InterX and it uses electric stimulation to treat both acute and chronic pain. It has been a great addition to our clinic in helping our patients return to doing the things they love even faster than before. It’s also completely safe with no side effects.

3. Restore the appearance of damaged nails in one appointment

The fantastic system we use to achieve this is called Keryflex and it transforms the appearance of toenails in just one application in one appointment. Whether your nails are damaged by fungus, have become brittle or broken, or have a moth-eaten or irregular appearance, they Keryflex system will have you ready to show off your nails this summer.

4. Permanently correct ingrown toenails

If you’ve ever had an ingrown toenail then you’ll know how frustrating it can be when you feel that pain coming back again and again. Instead of just removing that painful nail spicule, we can actually perform a procedure to permanently correct your ingrown toenail so that it doesn’t grow back in the edge that has persistently been bothering you. Alternatively, we can put on an almost-invisible brace to straighten your nail and give your ingrown or involuted nails some much-needed relief.

5. Re-train the way you run and walk so you can beat your personal best

When we walk or run inefficiently and without control, we overuse certain muscles, ligaments and joints which leave us feeling tired – and much more tired than the person we’re training with. The good news is that we can absolutely retrain the way we move to be more efficient so we can smash those goals! More than that, it can go a long way to reducing the risk of both accidental and overuse injuries during the activities that we love.

6. Alleviate children’s growing pains, regardless if they’re aged 8 or 18

There’s an old myth that nothing can be done for growing pains and they must just be ‘waited out’. In reality, this couldn’t be further from the truth! And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Pain always has a cause, and by addressing this cause, we alleviate the pain. Sounds simple, right? It is! Whether the pain is at the back of the heels, in the feet, through the shins or the knees, we can help.

7. Correct kid’s foot abnormalities such as in-toeing, out-toeing, and any cause of regular trips, falls or incoordination

While certain variations in kids feet are definitely normal during particular younger ages, if you’re noticing any of these abnormalities past the age of 6 then it’s best to bring your kids feet in to get checked. Often, feet just need a little bit of assistance to get them functioning properly and that’s definitely something we can help with! The sooner it’s sorted, the fewer the falls, trips and pains for the little ones.

8. Help you feel much more comfortable on your feet following surgery

Surgery and recovery from surgery is a serious process and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Care must be taken to ensure that everything heals properly, but until then, pain and discomfort can still play a significant impact in your day to day life. We can work with your shoes and orthotics to make it more comfortable, stable and supported when you do need to move around and improve your quality of life.

9. Correct differences in leg lengths

Most people that have a leg length difference won’t even know that they have one. They’ll just develop pains of varying natures from time to time. Some may develop after an injury, others after a surgery – it may be as simple as one arch collapsing and causing that foot to sit lower to the ground than the contralateral leg. We can assess the feet and legs, measure the difference and correct this difference to bring your hips, knees and ankles back into alignment and stop any further damage as a result of this position.

10. Splinting and strapping for a variety of lower limb ailments!

Yep, we do that too! Need more stability at the ankle after an ankle sprain? We can show you how to tape it. Want to slow down the progression of the bunion you’ve just noticed starting to take shape? We can give you a night splint and show you how to strap it. Stubbed your toes and are finding it painful to walk or touch? We’ll buddy strap it to keep it in the optimal position for a healthy recovery. From plantar fasciitis to achilles issues to the knees, we have a variety of splinting and strapping methods to get you better faster, and keep you in the optimal position while doing so.
